The LP-Research Motion Sensor LPMS-RS232AL3 is an inertial measurement unit (IMU) / attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) with rugged and waterproof housing. The unit is very versatile, performing accurate, high-speed orientation measurements. By the use of three separate MEMS sensors (3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis magnetometer) low-drift, low-latency orientation data around all three axes is achieved. The temperature and barometric pressure sensors allow accurate altitude measurements. The LPMS-RS232AL3 is connected to a host system via an RS232 port. Data transfer rates of up to 500 Hz can be achieved.

The sensor’s RS232 communication uses either our proprietary LP-BUS protocol or alternatively a plain ASCII output format. The unit contains a 32-bit digital signal processor capable of running all calculations on-board in real-time.
